Economic growth
Most economists judge our economy by its growth figure.
Happiness is hardly ever measured.
Economic growth does not lead to more happiness really.
More and more people begin to feel
like slaves of the modern economy.
Many companies
shuffle them around
like a piece of machinery or a commodity.
Many people have to work harder to make ends meet.
They have to pay ever more for
many products.
They have less time to share with family and friends.
Material wealth does not lead to more happiness.
So why make the economy grow and grow
while producing more pollution and more rubbish?
Why not invest more in true happiness
by helping developing countries
to solve poverty
and to cover basic needs?
Helping them to offer their citizens a decent life
would create more happiness
than
buying yet more new products.
Why not invest more in true happiness
by teaching children the value
of genuine friendship
and solidarity?
Boosting happiness is real growth.
